"Self-Care For Preachers": Sustaining Your Spirit Through Creative Expression
A session focused on how creative practices like storytelling, poetry, and reflective journaling can serve as spiritual self-care, helping preachers avoid burnout and nurture joy.
Rev. Sheila P. Spencer is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), educator, chaplain, trained spiritual director, award-winning poet, writer, and storyteller. She holds degrees from the University of Southern California, California State University, Dominguez Hills, and Christian Theological Seminary, and is currently pursuing doctoral studies.
With leadership experience at the local, regional, and general levels of the church, she has developed educational resources, facilitated leadership training, and led international service and learning experiences across Africa, Asia, South America, and the Caribbean. Her ministry integrates faith, education, storytelling, and self-care, with a passion for creating spaces where leaders can be renewed and sustained for the work ahead. She is the author of Gratitude Journal: Recharging Spirit, Reviving Body, and Renewing Soul and From The Jewelry Box: Custom Made Inspiration, and shares inspiration through her weekly blog.
