Day 1

Early Signs of Burnout/Depression + Resources
Preaching can feel like pouring out while slowly running dry. In this workshop, we’ll name the early signs of burnout and depression that too often go unnoticed until it’s too late. Together, we’ll explore practical tools, resources, and pathways of care that remind you: you are not alone, your well-being matters, and healing is possible.
From an early age, Rev. Dr. Sarah Lund had a heart for helping others. “I was that kid the teacher asked to stay in during recess to help classmates finish their tests,” she says. “No wonder I grew up to be a minister!”
That calling to serve others has shaped a lifetime of ministry and compassion. After earning a degree in Religious Studies from Trinity University, Sarah completed a Master of Divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary and a Master of Social Work at Rutgers University—a combination that beautifully blends her passions for loving God and loving neighbors.
Ordained into Christian ministry by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 2002, Rev. Dr. Sarah Lund began serving as a local church pastor in 2003 and has since led congregations of all sizes in Brooklyn, Minneapolis, New Smyrna Beach (Florida), and Indianapolis.
In 2011, Sarah earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, focusing on revitalizing the local church. Her thesis, “The Challenges to Building a Beloved Community on Facebook,” explored the intersection of faith and digital community.
Over the years, Rev. Dr. Sarah Lundn has served as a Regional Minister in the United Church of Christ, providing guidance and support to congregations across central and western Florida, and later as Vice President for Seminary Advancement at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis (2014–2018).
Deeply committed to community engagement, Rev. Dr. Sarah Lund serves on several boards, including the Faith & Action Project at Christian Theological Seminary (focused on ending poverty), Bread for the World – Indiana Chapter as the UCC Denominational Representative, and Faith in Indiana.
Nationally, Rev. Dr. Sarah Lund is a Trustee of Piedmont University and a Board Director for Mental Health America and the Disability Ministry Network, as well as a contributor to think tanks on mental health and faith with the U.S. Department of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. Internationally, Rev. Dr. Sarah Lund has consulted with the United Church of Canada, the World Council of Churches, and even Sesame Street.
Rev. Dr. Sarah Lund has been recognized with the Princeton Engle Preaching Prize for excellence in preaching and the Bob and Joyce Dell Award for Mental Health Education from the United Church of Christ Mental Health Network, honoring her outstanding authorship and leadership in breaking the silence about mental illness in families and churches—and offering pathways to healing and hope.
