Day 1
Spiritual Renovation of the Preacher: Reclaiming Sabbath, Spiritual Direction, & Solitude

When ministry demands never stop, your soul can quietly wither beneath the weight. This session invites you to rediscover the ancient practices of Sabbath, spiritual direction, and solitude—not as luxuries, but as lifelines. Through them, God longs to restore your spirit, rebuild your strength, and remind you of the joy that first called you to preach.

Rev. Hazel Owens

Owner
Owens Counseling & Consulting Services, LLC.

Rev. Hazel Owens is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), ordained minister, and founder of Owens Counseling & Consulting Services, LLC, based in Indianapolis, IN. She serves clients across Indiana, helping individuals and couples build emotionally safety, spiritually grounded, and culturally conscious lives through therapy, teaching, and faith-based support. After earning a Master’s in Human Resource Management from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2013, Hazel answered a deeper calling to ministry in 2016. She went on to receive dual degrees from Christian Theological Seminary—a Master of Divinity and a Master’s in Marriage & Family Therapy—and was ordained through Eastern Star Church in 2021, where she continues to teach and serve. In addition to her private practice, Hazel serves as Associate Pastor of Preaching & Teaching at Common Ground Church Midtown, where she provides pastoral care, preaches and teaches, and leads in the church’s efforts in biblical reconciliation and anti-racism work. Hazel also partners with businesses, faith-based institutions, and nonprofits to foster emotionally healthy organizational cultures. Through keynote speaking, staff trainings, wellness retreats, and workshops, she equips leaders with the tools to support employee well-being, promote psychological safety, and navigate the mental health impacts of systemic inequity. Her work is especially focused on creating spaces where BIPOC professionals and high-performing teams can thrive without sacrificing mental health. She specializes in supporting Black women, couples, and individuals seeking deeper emotional safety, healthier relationships, and holistic healing rooted in faith and culture—all while navigating the impact of racism-based trauma and stress. An experienced speaker and preacher, Hazel has shared her voice across the U.S. and internationally in Uganda. Through her digital wellness platform, she offers courses, workshops, and resources that empower people to reclaim rest, build self-trust, and cultivate inner peace. Whether in the pulpit, therapy room, boardroom, or on stage, Hazel creates space for healing, connection, and transformation. Outside of her professional life, Hazel is a sister, proud aunt, friend, and a wholehearted cheerleader for those becoming the best version of themselves. She enjoys traveling, cooking, movies, music, and quality time with loved ones.
